NHM article BTS!

Welcome back friends,

This weeks blog will be more logistical than entertaining. As most of you know I am writing an article featuring the Natural History Museum and the La Brea tar pits and how they fit in as a vital piece of L.A. culture! This past week I visited the establishment and took some photos as a preliminary visit/test run and I think I got some good shots!

I recently interviewed an archaeology professor as my informational expert and she told me how for centuries tribes have traded the tar for various reasons and how it has been a part of several cultures. She told me a story which sort of humanized everything even further and forced me to realize that in a way, we’re all kind of the same. Even though the historical context is not the same, it emphasized how underneath the superficial layers, we’re still just people trying to connect and get by. I think I really want to lean into it as my first quote.

As for my lead I think I am going to pull from an anecdote from a guest interview. She is an elementary school teacher with kids of her own and I have had a brief pre-interview with her already. It seemed promising and if I can find a way to sort of sew it all together then I think it will be just fine. We officially interview early this week so it should all be smooth sailing from there.
